Visualisation of video streams changing in space and time

Supervisor

Assoc Prof Dr Hermann Klug (hermann.klug@plus.ac.at)

Short description

During the past years, the streaming of mountainbike races became popular. Streams are visualised via the platforms YouTube or Vimeo. However, often the spatial position of the camera and/or drone and the respective viewing direction of each is unknown. Getting a particular overview of rider's position visible in the streams become even more complex, when the camera positions are constantly changing in space and time. This MSc thesis should setup a framework, where camera positions and their viewing directions will be captured from a mobile device. Coordinates and viewing angle will be transmitted to a web service. The web service contains the race tracks and additional information to be able to be switched on/off. Additionally, the map visualises the positions and viewing angles on a map in near real-time. The map enables interaction, e.g. it can be zoomed in/out and layers switchend on/off. Additionally, each camera can be (de-)activated in a scalable pop-up window. Streaming will be realised though mobile phones with data package SIM cards. The spatial position and the viewing direction should be captured from the mobile phone. The camera is either the mobile phone or a connected GoPro Hero camera. A power bank ensures a long lasting video capturing on the field.
